Competitive Skill Squad

1.The objective of the squad is to produce swimmers With great skills and prepare them for a future in swimming.
COMPETITIVE SKILLS SQUAD TRAINING TIMES
Monday 6.30 – 7.30 p.m pool YNSAWDRE POO
Tuesday 8.00- 9.00 p.m Pool YNSAWDRE POOL
Wednesday 6.00 – 7.00 p.m Pool PENCOED POOL
Friday 6.30 – 7.30 p.m pool YNSAWDRE POOL
Saturday 6.30 – 8am pool YNSAWDRE POOL
Sunday 3.00 – 4.30 p.m Pool YNSAWDRE POOL
Total Pool Time Available: 7 hours per week .
1 Age Group Classification for swimmers entering the squad
2 8 TO 12 years
3. Age at 31st December 2008
4. No swimmers will be automatically selected for this squad.
5. Swimmers will be selected on the number of A or B grades achieved., only 1 X50m time will be accepted subject to being able to full commitment to the swimming programme, Should there be more than 35 swimmers achieving numerous B grades for the squad ,than places will be considered in the number of B times achieved. If the last 2 places are entirely the same, long course swims will have priority into the squad.The coach can fast tract swimmers into the squad if he feels the swimmer has potential.
6. Consideration times should have been achieved within the period 01/01/08 - 05/08/08
7. An interview may take place between the swimmer (and parent/s if under 18) and the Head Coach prior to acceptance in the squads
8 These positions would be held up to September 2009 and would subsequently be reviewed atthis point in line with the criteria detailed in 5
9 Swimmers shall complete a minimum number of sessions in the pool per week and compete in the competitions set out by the head coach. The number of sessions required will be determined on the age of the swimmer as 31st December .,and what event they specialise in. swimmers who achieve he relevant standard for a squad ,but CANNOT commit to the required number of sessions will not stay in their squad. These swimmers have a choice of swimming the correct amount of swim sessions or moving to another squad. This does not include senior international tri athletes. Swimmers will be required to swim for Bridgend county in the Speedo league, Welsh championships ,National age and Youth Championships or senior National Championships. And abide to the head coaches competition plan. 10 If you cannot attend a meet the parent of the swimmer must talk to the head coach. If a swimmer refuses to swim in the Speedo league ,welsh championship relays, or British national relay, they will be reported to the committee ,where the committee will decide the next move
Please note that morning training is from 5.30 to 7.15 am. Over the years some swimmers within the borough have been getting out before this time. Swimmers should aim to be in the pool until at least 7am,so therefore swimmers getting out before 7am will be give ½ a mark for attendance. This does not apply for swimmers living outside the borough.
Sessions required 4/5 sessions per week.Swimmers should intend to train in all 6 sessions.
12. competitive skills Swimmers must compete in the meets decided by the head coach. ,
14 Swimmers/Parents should discuss with the Head Coach the planning of family holidays or School Trips/Camps. This is to try and prevent where possible trips clashing with important competitions or interfering with preparation phases for welsh ,national events
15 All swimmers are expected, if selected, to be available to represent BCSS in the following events

NATIONAL AGE /YOUTH INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND RELAYS
WELSH AGE/YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS INDIVIDUAL EVENTS AND REAYS

COMPETITION PLAN
16 All representative selections for additional competitions outside of the planned BCSS calendar to be discussed in advance with the Head Coach. Entries for events outside of the BSCC calendar will not be permitted in order to prevent over competing in unnecessary events which interfere with training and the long term development of the swimmer.
17 Swimmers are required to submit actual times on entry forms before submitting their entry form to the BCSS Competition Secretary.
18 Swimmers who do not achieve all training and competition requirements for the year may be required to move into another squad for the remainder of the season, with the possibility of going back into the squad, when the correct number of sessions can be achieved, and the competition calendar adhered to. The criteria will be applied again to gain access into the squad.
19 BCSS reserve the right to alter the criteria for this squad at any time
20. All competitive skills swimmers must have the following Kit items as standard on pool deck: Mesh Bag,, Finger Paddles, , Hand Paddles, Pull Buoy, Kick Board, Drinks Bottle(s)
PROCEDURE & MONITORING
1.The protocols and criteria will be reviewed by the Head Coach
2.Consideration times will be reviewed when necessary in line with the published graded tables Times.
3.Swimmers should arrive early for sessions, and be on poolside before the start of the session to warm up correctly. Swimmers arriving late or leaving the session early will be given half an attendance mark ,which could then affect there status within the squad.
4.The Head Coach will register swimmers at each pool and land session and follow up on any swimmers failing to meet criteria in writing as a final warning
5.Swimmers will lose their place in the squad if performance criteria are not met. Swimmers and/or parents will be involved in discussion with the Head Coach before such action is taken. The Head Coach’s decision on whether or not swimmers are displaying sufficient commitment to the squad will be final
CONSIDERATIONS
1.Swimmers entering an important period of Public Examinations or similar circumstances and feel that their training commitments cannot be could be asked to swim in an alternative BCSS squad for this period. After the exams are finished the swimmer may take there place back in the squad and adder to the criteria.
