New Members
Welcome to Bridgend County Swim Squad, a competitive swimming club affiliated to the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association, with over 300 members including swimmers who compete at national and international levels. We hope you will enjoy your involvement with the club and that you will fulfill your own individual potential.
On your first night you will be assessed by the coaching team and assuming this is successful all new members must complete and return:
A Swimmer Profile form.
A WASA registration form and £25 cheque payable to ‘Bridgend County Swim Squad.’
A trial period of 2 weeks is then allowed before the Standing Order mandate/Direct Debit should be submitted to your bank and the monthly fee becomes payable.
WASA registration covers an insurance element; in subsequent years this cost will be borne by the Club. The monthly subscription covers the cost of pool hire (which unlike some other sport clubs, is not subsidized) and entitles the swimmer to attend 3 one-hour Development Squad sessions per week. Whilst you may not start with 3 sessions a week, those who do, typically swim at their ‘home’ pool twice a week and at another pool on one other occasion. In total there are 8 Development sessions per week spread around the local pools at Maesteg, Pencoed and Pyle. Session times can be found on the notice boards or on the website www.swimbridgend.co.uk.
As you develop your own skills in the 4 competitive strokes you will be encouraged to participate in local swimming galas and if you train hard to improve your swimming skills, in time you may be selected to attend one of the other Squads (Competitive Skills, Regional Potential, National Potential, or the Elite Performance Squads).
Other information
Normal safety rules for public pools apply at all times and though an uncommon occurrence any injuries must be reported to pool staff immediately. In addition Club members must follow the Club Code of Conduct. Swimmers may be asked to leave the pool if they do not behave or represent a danger to others.
Punctuality - you should be on poolside ready to swim at the session start time, it is unfair on yourself to expect to train well without a proper warm up and unfair on others if they have to wait for late arrivers to catch up.
Changing areas - please be aware that parents are responsible for their children in the changing areas.
Please take the time to check the notice board each week.
Apart from the Head Coach, all staff are volunteers. We are always looking to train new swimming coaches and require help with fundraising. Please support us and should you wish to offer your help, speak to a coach, but don’t coach from the balcony!
