Bridgend County a Brief History
Members of the five swimming clubs in the Ogwr Borough Council Area (Bridgend, Cynfig, Garw Maesteg and Pencoed) first formulated the idea of an Advanced Training Squad in early 1991. The Ogwr Borough Council supported the idea and in September 1993 the Swim Ogwr Advanced Training Squad was formed under the control of Jeff Tavendale the first full time Head Coach.
In 1994 the Squad was awarded Regional Performance Centre status by the Welsh Amateur Swimming Association. The Squads development was aided by the provision of 16 hours of free water time by the then Ogwr Borough Council.
Upon Local Government reorganisation in 1997 the squad was renamed Bridgend County Swim Squad, to recognise the support of the Council. Also in 1997 the council provided the club with a permanent base at Llangeinor Swimming Pool
In December 1997 the head coach left and the Squad was co-ordinated by Dave Hart and Larry Newton, assisted by Billy Pye, Kevin Williamson, Kevin Law and John Howells.
